Lightning and Springsteen: An Introduction to February in Dallas

The American Airlines Center is where I spent back to back days! Photo by: Evan Berman

Who doesn’t love a good concert? I visited Dallas in February and had the opportunity to see Bruce Springsteen. The trip was a blast, catching up with friends and visiting the American Airlines Arena twice in 24 hours. 😉

This is the introduction to the trip, stay posted for reports of the city, flights, and activities. As with all Trip Introductions, I will include Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How Sections.

This introduction is the beginning of the February. For more information on this trip, follow these links:

Who:

While I travelled alone, I spent time and stayed with two friends: Kyle and Assael. A large part of the trip was catching up and spending time together.

What:

I’m a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, as is Kyle, a good friend of mine. When Bruce announced his tour which included a Friday night stop in Dallas, I knew I’d be there. As good fortune would have it, my favorite hockey team the Tampa Bay Lightning were in town on Saturday. The focus of the trip became clear:

  1. See the Boss live
  2. Watch the Lightning win!
  3. Catch up with friends I had not seen in a while

When:

I spent 5 days in Dallas in early February. The timing of the trip was based around the Bruce Springsteen concert on Friday, February 10th.

Where:

As with our trip to Asheville over Christmas, this was a simple journey. The final itinerary was as follows: CHS-DFW-CHS. Exciting! That is,

  1. Charleston, SC to Dallas’ Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) in American Economy
  2. DFW to Charleston in American Economy

As you will see in the flight reviews, I had zero chance of receiving an update. This sadly mirrors my experience with American flights– if you’re not buying a ticket in First, you won’t be flying First!

Why:

It’s always great to see old friends, especially when there’s a hockey game and concert to attend! I’d been planning on visiting Dallas for a while and then Bruce Springsteen announced he was touring again for the first time in several years. And his third stop just so happened to be in Dallas. Sold! I made a point to stay for 5 days to enjoy time with friends and see the two events.

How:

More details will be provided in the individual articles but here is what I spent:

Flights:

The roundtrip flight from Charleston to Dallas was $325.79. Keep in mind two things:

  1. I flew out on Wednesday afternoon and returned on Monday morning
  2. This was the weekend of the Super Bowl. Yes, it was the Chiefs vs. the Eagles but there’s still a lot of people travelling during that weekend!

Hotel:

My friends were gracious enough to allow me to stay with them. As such, I did not stay in a hotel during this trip.

Highlights Include:

  • Seeing Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
  • Spending time with friends
  • Watching the Tampa Bay Lightning win
  • Enjoying tasty food and drinks

Despite it being February in Dallas, we had decent weather and a terrific time. The concert was incredible and watching my favorite hockey team win is always fun! Stay tuned for more tips on booking tickets for sporting events and concerts. Next up: the flight to Dallas.
