Back to Oslo: Review of SAS CRJ-900 SVG-OSL in Economy

After a wonderful time in Bergen, Norway, it was time to head back to Oslo. My only choice was to take a one-stop itinerary, with a Stavanger Airport.

The flight from Stavanger to Oslo was also operated on a small CRJ-900 with Star Alliance member Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). This flight recap is a part of the larger Nordic Expedition. For more on this trip, follow these links:

Pricing:

Flight: I booked a one-way flight from Bergen to Oslo via Stavanger for 1546 NOK $151.86. This was purchased the day of, due to missing my previous flight since my passport had been misplaced. For the full story, check out this post!

Earnings: 107 United Miles

PQF: 1

PQM: 107

Booking:

I booked on SAS’s website. This was a bit over 1 hour prior to the flight. As I mentioned, I had to rebook another flight so I had very few options to choose when booking this flight. With all these factors, $151 is not an unreasonable price to pay. Due to the timing, no award seats were available.

My previous flight from Bergen arrived earlier than scheduled. As such, the flight from Stavanger to Oslo was boarding as I sat down in the terminal. I asked about being bumped to the earlier flight and was told that the only way to do so would be if I bought a full-fare economy or business ticekt. Even elite status would not help. Food for thought: I guess there may be a reason to book at that outrageous rate!

Lounges:

There are no lounges in the domestic terminal of Stavanger Airport. I got a chance to catch up on some work due to fast internet and an empty terminal and gate area– a rarity!

Recap:

The boarding occurred in two parts, split by rows. I boarded from the front of the plane. Due to my position in row 15, it was slightly quicker to board from the front.

Loving the legroom! Photo by: Evan Berman

As mentioned above, this plane is a CRJ-900. These planes are the same as those that Delta often flies on short domestic routes. I was happy to move back one row to the exit row, though surprisingly nobody else in my row seemed enthused. Maybe too much responsibility was frightening?

The CRJ-900 we flew has a setup of 2-2 seats in economy. As I was in an exit row, I needed to put my backpack in the overhead compartment (nothing may be placed under the seat in front of you). With the extra legroom, this flight was a breeze!

Meals:

SAS is a full-service carrier, though the flight less was than an hour long. As such, there was no meal service, no snacks, and no drinks.

Sleep:

I did not sleep on this flight.

Experience:

The flight was short, though I was quite comfortable with the extra legroom from sitting in the exit row!

After flying for a short while, we touched down in Oslo and I was on my way back to the city. The flight went smoothly and had little to no turbulence.

Customs:

As this was a domestic flight, I did not experience customs.

Recap:

The next step on the Nordic Expedition was heading back to Oslo from Bergen. After a quick flight to Stavanger Airport, I flew onwards back to Oslo. Both flights were quick and I hit the ground in Oslo ready to explore and take in the beauty of the city! Next up, the review of my time in Oslo!
